“ And God Created The Icicles”

It’s the time of the year for icicles… they’re everywhere. They are beautiful, dangerous, mysterious, even intriguing. You may ask, “how do icicles form… where do they come from” ? 

“Icicles can form during bright, sunny, but subfreezing weather, when ice or snow melted by sunlight, refreezes as it drips off under exposed conditions. Over time continued water runoff will cause the icicle to grow.” 

You may not know that the longest icicle was estimated to be 45 feet long….. , or that that at least 15 people in the US die from falling icicles each year.”  Yikes….be careful out there.

Why are we dedicating an entire BLOG to “icicles” ? Is there some spiritual principle wrapped up in these wintry beauties ? To be honest, I was just looking at icicles the other day and admiring their beauty…. our church has a huge one that’s some 20’ long and still growing… so I thought we should mentions them.  

God didn’t have to create icicles. Like so many things, I guess he did it for our enjoyment, like the beautiful sunsets and clouds and flowers and trees. So,  let’s look at all the beautiful things that surround us everyday and thank God for his great majesty. As we do I think our “soul will soar” a little bit…which is a good thing. 

So for our homework, I want each of us to open our eyes, look around and focus on some beautiful aspect of God’s creation and when we do, let’s smile and thank God for it.  And remember, “the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)
