Heavy Weight Champion Joe Louis once said, “Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.”… that’s really true. The poet Robert Frost said, “ It’s hard to get into this world and hard to get out of it.” Wow, that’s also true. 

Well our good friend “Bone” had a lot to say about heaven too; he did it by living a life  always pointed toward heaven. Bone used to carry around a book with the title “ Heaven”. He would bring it to our community prayer meetings and to our family prayer times on Mary St. where he lived. Bone was limited in what he could read, but he often seemed to have “infused knowledge”… maybe he put the Heaven book under his pillow and the truth sunk into his “fine head and big heart”. 

So, what can we say about heaven .. what do we know about heaven… what’s it going to be like? Hmmmmm…. not easy questions. Well, here’s a couple of things I think we can say:

·      HEAVEN IS OUR TRUE HOME …..  Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you…I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2…)…sounds very good.

·      OUR TIME ON EARTH IS FLEETING:  “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a town and spend a year there, doing business and making money…. you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:13)…. very true.

·      IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT:  “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1Cor. 2:9)  “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away. (Rev. 21:4)… sounds really great.

C.S. Lewis had many great quotes on heaven…. in The Last Battle from the Chronicles of Narnia he writes,  “I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now… Come further up, come further in!” 

Our good friend “Bone” is now in the “land he’s been looking for all his life”. May each of us continue to place our hope and trust in Jesus and fight the good fight of faith, so that one day we may join him in heaven…. heaven where every day is better that the last…. and that is very GOOD NEWS.
