“The Eagle & Chicken Pub”

What would it have been like to join the “Inklings”(Oxford Writer’s Group)  as they met at the “Eagle & Chicken” Pub in Oxford to discuss their latest writings. J.R.R. Tokien and C.S. Lewis, two of my favorite authors and great Christian apologists, would discuss their terrific stories and various Christian thoughts over a pint or two of ale. Being able to bounce a few of your troubling questions off these great Christian minds would have been something. Listen in:

Say Jack ( Lewis’s nickname), I’m getting confused over pride and humility. Well Dave, true humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.” Boy, that is good…thank you.

Ron (J.R.R. went by Ronald) I’ve been eating and drinking a bit much lately. Well Dave, “ If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” Wow that’s great, let me get this next round.

Dave, I have a question for you. When discussing the Lord with people who might be struggling with their faith, how do you express your enthusiasm and conviction. Well Jack I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”Gee Dave, I thought I said that. Oh, sorry, I got a bit confused….. another round on me?

Well, it’s getting late and I’ve got an early class tomorrow, so let me just say that Ronald and I have many insightful phrases and thoughts that I believe the Holy Spirit inspired us with, but there is nothing like the Holy Scripture for wisdom and insight into any topic. Regardless of the situation, remember to “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will dwell in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” (Psalm 37:3-5)

This was a great night.  I’ll see you next Tuesday. And Dave, bring along some of your recent BLOGS, I’d like to work them into a chapter of the “Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe”. Sure Jack, no problem.
