57 years ago on July 5, 1969, Judy and I walked down the aisle of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clayton, Mo. (a suburb of St. Louis). Yesterday we celebrated those 57 years of marriage.

As I look at our wedding pictures it seems we don’t have a care in the world. We were so happy to be getting married. I was so happy to not have to say goodbye each night. We would be together, forever.
And despite some intermittent travels that kept us apart over the years, we have been together for 57 years. It’s really amazing. Judy and I living alone in our 3rd floor apartment in St. Louis, and then our first house in Kansas City. Next it was 13 years in Easton, PA., with Angela, Suzanne, Laurie and Jonathan joining us, then Berkeley Heights, NJ with Crissy and Mary added, and finally 6 Mary St. in Warren,N.J. where Pete, Anne, Dave, and Cath completing our family. Wow, from just the two of us to a full house with our 10 kids. And now once again it’s just the two of us. It seems like we’ve been together forever.
We are growing old together… what a blessing. So many we know have not been able to grow old together with one of the spouses passing. My parents had 21 short years together when my father died at 52; Granny was a widow for 40 years.

So how do continue on into the 58th year and beyond? We do believe that the Lord has more for us in these latter years. Having experienced the goodness of God, we try to pass on this “good news” to those we meet… the good news that almighty God loves each of us personally and offers that peace that passes all understanding. All else is passing away, but what remains in Christ will endure into eternity.
Lord we have been so blessed over these 57 years. Help us to never take it for granted and to share your love with all we meet for as long as we have left on this earth together….. and then eternity together with our great God and all those we love. And that is very good news.
May God bless you with many more years together! Thank you for being such a great example of married love and for your commitment to God and each other! He has used you to bless so many others over the years – including my wife and myself! I trust He will continues to do so as you “grow old together” – keeping your eyes on Him!
