“Wishful Thinking”

It’s been awhile since I published a new BLOG. I’ve had many thoughts that could have developed into a decent BLOG, but I didn’t bring them to completion. At times I can dream of doing something special; I may even share it with my wife Judy ….. but too often she rolls her eyes and utters the dreaded phrase, “Just Wishful Thinking”.  Auuuugh !!!

In the classic book “Screwtape Letters”, C.S. Lewis gives advice to the young demons he is teaching….. “As long as [man] does not convert his good intentions into action, it does not matter how much he thinks about it; he can wallow in it, write a book about it.… but the more often he feels without acting, the less he will ever be able to act.” Woe! It looks like ole C.S. has been reading my mind.

It’s true that our life has been very full over the last several months.  We’ve had some difficult times, but also a lot of wonderful things…. probably like most of you. Yet I really can’t use that as my excuse for not putting out any new BLOGS.

We just returned from a trip to Nashville to visit family and attend a wonderful graduation. I have to admit that I was nervous about the trip. I had botched up the reservations and wasn’t sure we could successfully navigate thru Newark Airport. I felt like we were flying on a bi-plane to Nepal to climb Mt. Everest. Yet once we got going, I could feel the juices flowing… the old traveler was back in his lane.  We zipped thru security, finagled  early boarding to our seats at the back of the plane, got a nice cup of coffee and a pretzel. A little over 2 hours and we were at the curb awaiting our son David’s pick up. One of the highlights of the trip was taking an Uber without ending up back in Nepal.

I realize that this particular BLOG is pretty lame, but I’m going to publish it anyway just so I can “convert my good intention into action”. Who knows, maybe the next one will be better.

And just so I can leave you with something of real value, let me again quote C.S. Lewis from his Screwtape Letters, “Hence nearly all vices are rooted in the future. Gratitude looks to the past and love to the present; fear, avarice, lust, and ambition look ahead.” So, let’s live in the present moment loving God and one another.
