“Finishing Strong”

Mark Twain once said, “The report of my death has been grossly exaggerated.” Well the report of the death of Dave’s BLOG is a bit exaggerated.  It may have been on life support, but it seems to have a little breath left.

When I stopped the writing, I just didn’t have much left in the tank. The BLOGS were not even grabbing my own attention… I was falling asleep reading them. Well what’s changed? I can think of two things. I just came back from a pilgrimage to Italy. To be honest it almost killed me…. up some 30 hours as we flew to Rome and bussed to Assisi, followed by some 4 miles of walking each day. I think I would have quit if I was on my own…but we kept one another going. Anyway, I came away somewhat reinvigorated. The second thing is that I was reading some of the comments from previous BLOGS and they seem to have been a help to some of you. If they are helping people in some way to keep fighting the good fight of faith, maybe I should look to revive them.

So where does that leave us? I turn 80 next year and my focus is more and more on “packing my bags” for the final journey. I do have some thoughts about this stage of my life. For example, when I go to the gym, I no longer get questions like “Dave, how do you stay in such incredible shape, what’s your routine, were you a professional athlete…. how do I handle this disappointment? To be honest, no one EVER asked me that type of question and I’m not disappointed at all.

It may take some time to get rolling, so stay tuned to see how this develops. In the meantime, let’s continue to rely on the Lord to keep us going.

P.S. I’m actually in the final stages of publishing a hard copy of Volume II of the BLOG from 2021. Volume I from 2020 was published last year. Stay tuned regarding how to order and beat the Christmas rush.

  1. I’m always glad to read your blog! Feels like a chat with you first thing in the morning.

I’m sure the Lord will show the way.

    Love you, Cris

  3. Dave! I’m glad to see you are writing again! This is Deborah Kestner in Dexter, MO. Just wanted you to know that when I’m in the area where you lived growing up, I drive by your house. The house looks good. It looks like the owners may have splashed on some paint, which always helps! I have gone through a battle with cancer since we last communicated. Well, I didn’t, the Lord did and He won! I’m 7 months cancer free. I had a wonderful health care team. I told them constantly…You are treating me, but God is healing me. Strange part is, I was never sick one day. God is full of compassion and mercy. I’m praying your family has a blessed Thanksgiving holiday together. You friend, Deborah
