“The BLOG Is Still Breathing”

I wanted to send a quick BLOG to my many thousands of fans to let you know that I’m still breathing and still trying to figure out if there is a future for “Dave’s BLOG”. I guess the short answer is “I’m not sure”. While I guess that’s not especially helpful; nevertheless, that’s kind of where I am with it.

I do feel that there is more to come, but it seems that it needs to take a different course. There are so many excellent commentaries on the scriptures today that simply re-presenting them seems a bit redundant. If you read the Magnificat or God’s Word Among Us or the many other commentaries, you will be “well fed”. So, does the Lord have something for me to do ?

Betelgeuse..not so tiny

Initially the BLOG was meant for my family…kids and grandchildren…and then it expanded. Maybe it’s time to simply get back to speaking to my family, focusing on trying to help them; if it helps others, that would be great. Hmmmmmm, so where are we?

I find myself reflecting back on my life which seems to have gone so quickly. As they say, “the days are long, but the years are short”. I just heard that my friend Jimmy Bland passed away. I spent my early years in Dexter, Mo. with Jimmy and others, mainly playing ball every day. He was a very good athlete, an Army Ranger and Green Beret, full colonel in the Army reserves, business owner, husband, father and grandfather. I last saw Jimmy in 1957, but I remember him. May God rest his soul.

I recently relocated the outlines of some talks given by my friend Dick Birmingham several years ago. He titled the series “Heading For The Barn”. As I glanced over the outlines, I was reminded of what a smart and holy man Dick was. He had a wonderful ability of covering a lot of detail, yet not getting lost in the details…. always keeping the main point, the main point. That’s a rare trait today. So perhaps I may republish some of these outlines as “Dick’s Contribution to Dave’s BLOG”…. hmmmmm, has a nice ring to it.

One of the talks Dick gave was entitled, “Betelgeuse”… a tiny bright star that  navigators in the navy (like Dick)  used to plot their location out on the vast sea. To him it was a bright little star that could be seen every dawn. Many years later he learned that this tiny bright star was not tiny, that “while you could fit 960 thousand earths in our sun,  you could fit 262 trillion earths in that little star Betelgeuse. And while the sun is 93 million miles from the earth, Betelgeuse is more than 2500 trillion miles from the earth!” Yikes!!!

Dick ended the talk with the point that while God’s greatness is beyond imagination, yet he loves each of us with a personal love…. that he knows each and every detail about our life.  Psalm 139:1-4 –  “O  Lord, you have probed me and you know me; you know when I sit and when I stand; you understand my thoughts from afar.  My journeys and my rest you scrutinize; with all my ways you are familiar.  Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know the whole of it.”   How great is our God to be aware of the words in the minds of each of us!  How close must he be to us to know our very thoughts!” Wow, that is very good news.

  1. his love is so hard to wrap our arms around(no pun intended). All I know is the more I keep experiencing his love, the more I want to give it away😊🎁

  2. Morning Dad!

I’d love if you and mom were to share memories or family stories with us!
