You may have noticed that I took a break from the BLOG during the Christmas season. I have to say there’s a certain pressure that comes from publishing a daily BLOG. It was nice to not have that pressure for a few weeks.

Sometimes putting the BLOG together comes easily and it’s a joy. I feel I have something to say; I experience hearing the Lord clearly. Other days seem pretty flat and I’m a bit bored as I read it. Yet the reaction I receive may not line up with that feeling….some of my perceived “duds” are well received and some of my perceived “home runs” are welcomed with a yawn. Boy oh boy.
The purpose of the BLOG continues to evolve. Certainly I want to speak about the love of God into the lives of my children (now grown) and grandchildren, and others ….. but how to do that, what is helpful…. hmmmmmm. Thank God that today there are many well written scripture studies and theological analyses authored by very smart and holy men and women. I often hear, “did you read Bishop Barron today…… how about Fr. Mike Schmitz …. that Patrick Madrid on Relevant Radio is really smart, hey don’t count out Fr. Rocky on EWTN, or my pastor gave a great homily today, etc., etc., etc.
Sometimes I feel like we’re at this huge spiritual banquet with all your favorite foods…. delicious appetizers, every entrée you can think of, delectable desserts, exquisite after dinner drinks. Where does the BLOG fit into this banquet? Gee, do we need another entrée? I guess I try to provide a glass of cold water or a “pallet cleanser” between entrees.
If Bishop Barron brings Thomas Aquinas and Augustine to the banquet, I try to bring a converted Moe & Curly Howard. I bring the White Castles and M&M’s ..… a change of pace. You’ve heard of “Theology on Tap” and “Catholic Underground”….. the BLOG is “Theology for Dummies”….. by a Fellow Dummy. That’s the niche I feel called to address. Hey from one dummy to another, we sometimes need “theology without the theology”, or “theology for those who flunked Latin”, or “theology with a smile”.
That reminds me…. “did you ever hear the story of when Padre Pio and St. Francis were Mall Cops during Christmas…. there was an accident… a monkey was involved.” I’m sorry, we just don’t have time for that now, maybe next week.
Dave, what is the point of today’s BLOG? Well Jim, there really isn’t much of a point. It’s just my way of saying, we are going to keep going with the BLOG for a bit longer. You may notice a few changes. If you like them, let me know. If you don’t like them, you can contact Dr. Chuck Wormwood, Vice President in Charge of Complaints.
In all of this, remember that God loves us and all will be well with our souls. And that is very good news.
Excellent! Thank you.from a brother dummy!! 🙂
