We are blessed with a large and wonderful family. When you add up our children, their spouses, their children, on average we have a celebration every three days of the year. I do try to pray for each of them by name every day.
Yet with this many, you have to pay attention to precedence. If we bought our first child a Corvette, we would probably have to buy the others a Corvette and you could see where this could lead. (FYI, we did not buy our eldest a Corvette)

But today is a milestone. Our first born, our daughter Angela, is 50 years old today. It’s hard to believe. I thought I was 50. How can she be 50 …… she was just born a few years ago. I still remember so many things about her birth. Judy and I were very excited. We took our Lamaze classes, a baby care class at the Visiting Nurse’s, we prepared the room in our home. I prepared my care package for the delivery…. a bologna sandwich and a bag of M&M’s to give me strength thru the delivery. (We’ll save some of those details for another BLOG)
We ate Thanksgiving dinner in Judy’s hospital room… turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes….. just the three of us. It was great. We then went home and ran around in circles as we tried to figure out what to do. Oh yes, we used cloth diapers…. slosh, slosh, slosh in the toilet, squeeze out and into the proverbial diaper pail (smelled somewhat like the “Love Canal”), spin out in the washing machine, wash and dry and back into a nice stack of fresh diapers. A few weeks later it was Christmas with our new baby under the Christmas tree.
Well, our little beautiful baby grew up… so smart and pretty and funny and wonderful….eldest of 10 children….a nurse, married, children,…. where did the time go? She is 50 years old. Wow.
We especially pray for her on this 50th birthday and I say a prayer that I used to pray over her when she was younger. It goes like this:
“Angela, I bless you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I ask that God would bless you and keep you. I consecrate you to him. I pray that He would bridge the gap between the love you’ve needed and the love you’ve received. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ , our Lord and Savior. You’re a very good girl, and I love you very much.” Amen.
Happy Birthday Ang …. Love, Dad
Happy blessed birthday Angela.
