“Brains Are Not Enough”

You may have noticed that the BLOG is back from vacation. Actually the BLOG was not on vacation …… I was taking a bit of a “vacation from the BLOG”….. the BLOG is not a real person. 

Anyway, I was thinking about what goes into publishing a BLOG almost every day. I estimate that I spend ~ 1½ hours  putting together each BLOG…. If I have published 1,000  BLOGS (actually 1,125 at the moment, including some repeats), this translates to approximately (1,000 BLOGS X 1.5 hours/BLOG divided by 8 hours/workday = 187.5 workdays) Yikes that’s over 9 months…that’s really a lot. Since I started the BLOG on April 1, 2020 ( about 3 and a half years ago), that’s the equivalent of  75 years or 27 lifetimes or 16 trips to Mars….. hmmmmmm.  

Believe it or not, I was thinking of Gary Larson the other day…. yes, the Gary Larson from “The Far Side” comic strip. Gary retired at the peak of his success. Now I hope you’re not thinking that Gary and I have had similar success, although you perhaps could make the case. For reference, “The Far Side was a single-panel cartoon that first appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1980 and ran for 15 years, featured in nearly 2,000 newspapers and 40 million books, sold 77 million calendars and was translated into more than 17 languages.” The BLOG began in 2020, published 1,000 + times and has 7 viewers along with my children and grandchildren and my one great grandchild who reads it faithfully every day.  I think you can see the similarities. Oh by the way, Gary’s net worth is $70 million and my net worth is $70.75. Gary stopped because of “burnout” and didn’t want the  quality of his work to drop from excellent to mediocre. I have had similar thoughts. 

So the net-net of all this is that unlike my colleague Gary Larson, I am not retiring at this time from doing the BLOG. As long as I have a few of my children, a couple of grandchildren, my one great granddaughter, and my 7 other faithful fans clamoring for the BLOG…I’ll try to keep it going. While there is talk of a TV series and getting it translated into foreign languages, that will have to wait for a bit.

So, be sure and check your e-mails each day because the BLOG will hopefully be showing up… most days. More than the “witty humor ….yawn, yawn”, I hope to remind us that, in all our days, the Lord will be at our side to help us. I pray we allow Jesus to help us in our trials and that we will trust him with our lives. And that is very good news.
