I often receives stories and anecdotes on “wisdom” from family and friends. I believe it’s because they love me and want me to improve myself… to get smarter. I received the following from my brother- in- law Larry who is also a very wise man….

One night on Cheers , a TV Sitcom, Cliff Clavin said to his buddy, Norm Peterson: “Well, ya see, Normy, it’s like this ..
A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But, naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers!”
Hmmmm let’s be honest, that’s pretty good…… and who knows, I generally do feel a bit smarter and wittier after a beer or two. We know that C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tokien used to meet up at a pub in Oxford to discuss their latest literary endeavors. Tossing down a few at the “The Eagle & The Child” pub, Gandalf and Bilbo made a lot of sense.
You may be wondering if the BLOG has finally gone over the edge of the cliff; sometimes I wonder that also. Yet, God does communicate his love in many different ways. We see his love in the vastness of the universe, in the beauty of nature, in his holy word, in the kindness shown to others. John Bosco wrote, “Only God knows the good that can come about by reading one good Catholic book.” (Magnificat: 5-2-23) Hey, even good might come from a “beer story in a BLOG”. At least, a chuckle might cause us to forget the latest “Yankee or Cardinal loss” and to remember that God has a sense of humor…. and does love each of us
All God’s people have a place in the choir!
