Craziness Will Not Win Out

Things seem to be accelerating. Events that would seem inconceivable or at least unlikely are becoming common place. I find myself frequently saying “what happened to common sense… what happened to natural law which helps everyone know right from wrong… not to even mention the 10 commandments or the teachings of our Lord…. the sermon on the Mount, the Our Father?”

I try to watch less News, but even an occasional glance can be overwhelming…. the latest shootings at Michigan State University… the latest in a continuing string of senseless murders, the crazy pronouncements on gender, the dismissal of pro-life beliefs by the media and others, spy balloons floating over our country, etc., etc., etc. ”

Well, I don’t think anyone can deny that “things seem to be spiraling out of control… that the inmates have taken over the asylum… pick your own phrase.”

What does God think about all this? What does the Lord think as he ponders the state of his world? I don’t think he’s happy; I don’t think he’s pleased when his commandments are being ignored. We just read the Genesis account of Noah and the flood where God brought punishment onto the earth as that generation spiraled out of control. God is not oblivious to mankind and its evil. It matters to the Lord. How he is going to respond is up to him, but he is and will respond. He is God !

But the real question to you and me is “what should be our response to the evil in the world?” How should we act?  Well what we shouldn’t do is “wring our hands, moan & groan, trash everyone, complain about all those not doing their jobs, become hopeless….” Rats, why am I living in such a time….bla,bla,bla,bla.”

We are Christians. We are sons and daughters of God. We are disciples of the Lord. We need to be part of the solution and not add to the misery by whining. God expects more from us than whining and complaining. We are to be the light of the world.

This can be our greatest moment. This should be our greatest moment. People are hurting and they need to hear the good news. Jesus is Lord. He came to save us. He conquered sin and death and the devil. We have no more reason to fear. People  should know we are Christians by our love.  Let’s not become “downcast or resentful”.(Gen. 4:6) In the power of the Holy Spirit, we can make a difference. We can speak words of love and kindness and wisdom that can help people. We can reach out to people who are suffering and make a difference. We can smile and bring a smile to others who are suffering. God expects us to be his light in the darkness.

God is in charge of his world; we have no reason to fear, in spite of the craziness that comes our way. So “smile and love” as a wonderful friend said many years ago as he was getting ready to pass from this life. Smile and love because Jesus Christ is Lord and he will have the last word. And that is very good news.

  1. Oh Lord let us never grow sluggish or forget to do our part—to smile and love🙏 I am so grateful for those on the frontlines doing battle for Christians. I am grateful for the many priests who are ministering in crisis situations. May there be unity of all Christians to do what is right🙏⚓️
