“Pay Attention”

Dewey defeats Truman: The most famous wrong call in electoral history. The Chicago Daily Tribune will forever be known for this major communications faux pas. Communications … getting the right information is critical.  It’s especially important when we’re communicating with the Lord…. hearing from God.

“Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us.” (Ps. 123:2) Whether in business, in the military, in families, in government ….  it’s vital that key information is communicated well.  When the captain of the ship says “right full rudder”…he means now, not in five minutes. When the order is not obeyed, the ship may end up at the bottom the sea.

Judy and I had an opportunity to go to Eucharistic Adoration today….. a great blessing. As I was praying I asked the Lord to help me be more sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Lord help me to more quickly hear and obey these promptings. I recalled the passage when Elijah was trying to hear the Lord’s voice, but God was not in the wind , or the earthquake, or the fire… but in the still small voice.(1Kings 19:11-13)

We need to listen carefully or we may miss the message. Often it’s in the gentle breeze, in the still small voice, that the Lord speaks. If we’re not listening carefully, we’ll miss it. As the servant keeps his eyes on the hand of the master, we need to keep our eyes on the Lord. So, let’s pay attention.
