Some days I feel very excited about putting my BLOG together… perhaps I have a message that has touched me, maybe a funny story that I believe will give everyone a laugh, or something that I think is really important. “Today, I’m just not feeling it…”

Maybe it’s because we’re a few days away from Holy Week and Lent is nearing the end. How am I doing? Am I growing in holiness…. have I developed some new virtues, maybe cast aside some sinful tendencies…. hmmmmm. Right now I think my Lent is maybe a “C”…. possibly a “B”. In truth, I could talk my way into a “Summa Cum Laude Lent” or tumble into a solid “F” Lent. Okay, where are we going with this BLOG ? I’m just not sure.
Maybe St. Paul can help us. At one point he said, ” I’m perplexed, but not driven to despair…struck down, but not destroyed…for we are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” (2Cor. 4:7-15) Despite some crazy things going on that can drag us down, the Lord is at work, and “the life of Jesus is being manifested in us.” We may not feel it every day; some days we may feel like a failure…other days, “Mr. Holy”. But, the Lord is at work…every day.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.”(Heb. 13:8) Christ is steady…always at work in our lives. We may be going “into surgery, in surgery, or out of surgery”, but the Lord is at work for our good. So, let’s not allow the “superfluous tidbits” of life determine if we’re having a good day or a bad day.. The Lord is at hand, working for our good. And remember, ”the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers him (Psalm34)
So let’s end with a few words of wisdom that can perk us up, and put a zip in our step. Ready?
- For seniors…..
- If you can’t think of a particular word, simply say, I forgot the English word for it. That way people will think you’re bilingual instead of just an idiot.
- For husbands …..be careful what you say:
- a recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
- Marriage counselor: Your wife says you never buy her flowers. Is that true? Me: To be honest, I never knew she sold flowers
Okay, remember to “fear not….. be not discouraged, for the Lord, your God is in your midst. (Zep.3:14-18) And that is really good news.
Literally laughing out loud, Dad.
Thoughts on Lent: even though some of the things I “wanted to do” aren’t working out, the overall goal is to grow closer to God. And I can see that happening. So he’s moving and helping me grow in ways I didn’t plan on. So I think that’s making it a good Lent.
