“Glass is …. Overflowing”

I like to be around “Glass-Half Full” people…. “a ‘glass-half-full person’ is an optimist, someone who always thinks that good things will happen. Meanwhile, as you might imagine, a ‘glass-half-empty person’ is a pessimist, someone who always thinks that bad things will happen.

Glass is Half Full

To be honest, I can tend to be a “glass-half-empty” kind of person. I’m usually waiting for the “other shoe to drop”…. I know our team is up 10 runs with 2 out in the 9th inning, but you never know.

I have to fight against having that perspective. It can jump on me each morning … is the glass half empty or  bone-dry ? 

As Christians, we should know better. We have a great redeemer who has saved us from all the big enemies— the world, flesh, and the devil and who is preparing a place for us in heaven. He is always there for us. We should be  “glass-overflowing-people” !!!

I think part of the dilemma is what we put into our mind each day….if it’s  “garbage in”  (the constant media deluge of anti-God material and general trivia)—- then it’s going to be garbage floating around our mind, or garbage out”. 

Here’s a few tips to help us. First, we need to follow St. Paul’s encouragement from Philippians to think rightFinally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” (Phil. 4:8) The more I think about these wonderful and holy and inspiring things, the more my glass becomes “overflowing”. 

Next, we should spend time with brothers and sisters who are fighting the good fight of faith… who fight to be “glass-overflowing-people”… people who have a “glory story” to share. In fact we should insist that whenever we meet, we begin our time with some “good news sharings… a good news report”. It doesn’t mean that we don’t have problems and need prayers, but we can surely find some good news to share also. 

Glass is OVERFLOWING !!!

Hey, I’m already feeling energized. Okay, I’ll start. First, Jesus loves me and has forgiven my sins and is preparing a place for me in heaven…how about that !!! I hope we all can share that greatest of news…. Wow, we should be smiling. Oh and by the way our son Pete and his wife Kristin just had a new baby girl…Eva Catherine. The glass is overflowing. Okay, it’s your turn.. start sharing some good news.

  3. Great timing for me Dave. I needed your words today, to return to us actually having “a glass half full.” That was also President Kennedy’s phrase when he was in office and was promoting the Peace Corps. It made sense to me then to join, and it makes sense to me now to get back on the “band wagon”. Thank you!
