Boy it’s a hot one today…into the 90’s and humid. It doesn’t take long to walk from the air conditioning into the heat and be soaked with perspiration. I find perspiration somewhat intriguing… it keeps our body cool or at least cooler. I have a friend who “doesn’t sweat” and he has to be very careful in the heat…because he can quickly overheat.

How does perspiration work anyway? Well, sweat helps cool you down by releasing moisture onto your skin. But that’s not all that’s going on. On a hot day, your sweat evaporates from your skin taking a little bit of your body heat with it.
God is very smart…he made our bodies so that we are able to maintain our internal body temperature within a narrow range of ~10°F (from ~95°F to ~106°F) …outside this range and you’re not going to make it for very long.
Woe Mr. Wizard, what is this a science lesson ….what is the point of all this? Well, I’m not sure, but I do know that it is very hot and despite the outside temperatures, our human body is able to keep our internal temperature within a couple of degrees. That’s pretty amazing. Despite the delicate balance needed to remain healthy, we generally maintain that balance. We do know that when that balance gets a bit out of whack, we can get unstable/sick very quickly… eg. if your inner ear gets out of balance, you can get dizzy and maybe unable to even stand …. or, a slight shift of distances within parts of your eye can cause blurry vision and you no longer see clearly. We are all pretty aware of this delicate balance…. ie. you could be giving a speech to the the Pope …. and if your heart skips a beat, you would quickly say “uh hubba, wubba, hubba…auugh …. excuse me a moment Holy Father.”
Truly the Psalmist had it right …. “ I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps 139:14) We are fearfully and wonderfully made !!!
God is the creator of these wonderful bodies. He knows us through and through. He knows when we sit and when we stand…..and even better than all of that, he loves us. God loves us.
So where does this leave us? First of all, God is AMAZING !!! He is so far beyond our human minds. While we do know a lot of things and keep discovering new truths of nature, we haven’t scratched the surface. But more importantly, this amazing, all powerful and all knowing God truly loves us. “ Even though he is the master of might, he judges us with clemency and with much lenience he governs us.” (Wisdom 12:13-19) “You O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in kindness to all who call upon you.” (Ps.86) And despite the 90° weather, that is very good news.
Well said and good reminder!
