What An Honor

Many traveled to Michigan hoping to simply show some small sign of how much the life of Steve Clark meant to them. I went looking to contribute even a bit to the honor due this great man. But I was surprised, it was I who was blessed; it was I who received honor. I was hoping to bring some small consolation to the brothers of the Servants of the Word, but it was I who was consoled.

The visitation and funeral mass was anointed. I was lifted up by the sharings and prayers and music and conversations. The Lord visited us during this time. I was lifted up and inspired. My eyes were opened wider; I saw another level of this good man’s holiness… his patience and kindness and generosity and humility and fatherliness.

I knew Steve as a holy man of God, but I underestimated him. At the Funeral Mass, I felt lifted into the heavens. Steve knew God and lived for God. I needed to hear again his encouragement to give everything in following Christ.

“Lord, help me… help all of us to step it up, to go deeper in loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and our neighbor as ourself. Steve, pray for us. Pray for your friends and brothers. “O my soul, claim nothing as your own. For you there is God and God alone.”

Stephen B. Clark, Man of God: June 1, 1940-March 16, 2024

  1. Lord, welcome him home, forgive his sins, and bring him into the home you have prepared for him.

“I find in myself desires which nothing in this earth can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”
