I need to get away…. but where? Where can I go to get away? How about the Caribbean? I used to get a little breather by watching sports. Hey the world may be going down the tubes, but at least I have my teams. It’s fun to get out to the old ball park…yes indeed….. maybe I’ll watch the Cardinals or Giants on T.V.

Well, I hate to pop your bubble, but it’s not all fun and games at the ole ballpark anymore. Have you noticed that more and more fans are getting into fights….. serious fights…. and not just the men, the women are getting into real fights. “Hey Judy let’s save up our money and take some of the grandkids to the ballgame…. there’s at least a 50:50 chance we’ll get out alive. “Yikes !!!”
Well at least we can check out sports on the TV, & radio. Hmmmmm, let’s check out some headlines from today’s WFAN report:
- “Loogy goes scorched earth on ‘gutless’ Brian Daboll: ‘Has coached like a wimp’ “The coach has been gutless for weeks! Gutless!”
- “Halloween is reminder of scary New York sports scene.”
- “Those delusional Zach Wilson fans…. auugh.”
- “Those Knicks are going nowhere….”
Listen to this. I just read that 50 million American adults are planning to bet $16 billion on the upcoming Super Bowl….. $16 billion !!! How happy are the losers going to be when Coach Igor calls the wrong play on 4th down. I can’t wait to listen to Sports Radio after the Super Bowl.
As a side note, why do even “the non-sports fans” seem crabby today? Well, there are many reasons but one is that they are also gambling and losing. “There were over $60 billion in gambling revenues in 2022, estimated to grow to $1.4 trillion by 2030. Well Dave, at least they make some extra cash…… auuugh sorry, the average gambler loses $115,000 over his lifetime.
Well this is certainly a cheerful BLOG. Is there a point here… any redeeming thought? Well, if we try to find our true joy in the things of the world , we’re going to have a very “up and down life”, and ultimately it’s going to be down.
True peace and happiness only comes from living in the presence of the Lord. In God’s will we find peace. Loving and serving the Lord leads to peace. Loving our neighbor leads to peace. Living for the kingdom of God now and one day in heaven brings peace. All the rest just doesn’t work out…. maybe some temporary happiness, but it doesn’t last.
So if you need to get away, you may want to forget a trip to the Caribbean or even to Giants Stadium and schedule some time in the presence of the Lord. Get some front row seats at Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament…. they’re free of charge and I’ve never seen anyone fighting in the pews. And yes, living in the peace of Christ that passes all understanding, is very good news. (Phil. 4:7)
Great blog today! I am going to get some seats at Adoration today!

Just seeking the presence of Jesus throughout my day helps me transcend the true trials and the bad news but it takes effort to build that habit because we get so distracted!
