Brain Daboll, coach of the New York Giants football team, frequently talks about competition. Under the pressure of competition, players finds out how good they really are. If you’re not good enough, you get exposed on the field and everyone sees it. It’s good to recognize our weaknesses, so we can correct them.

“Search me Lord and know my heart, test me and know my thoughts. See that I follow not the wrong path and lead me in the path of life eternal.” (Ps. 139:23-24) It takes courage to pray this psalm because the Lord hears this prayer and will test us ….. and our weaknesses will become evident.
Sometimes I’d rather just hide in the back and avoid testing; I’d prefer that my hidden weaknesses stay hidden. Yet the times come when you can’t hide anymore. Better to get tested while there’s time to make corrections.
Christians are getting tested all over the world; in some parts of the world this testing includes actual martyrdom…. giving your very life for Christ. Yet even in our country, the storm clouds are gathering. Our current testing is mainly verbal and non-physical, yet it could get worse.
While I prefer the sunlight to the storms, nevertheless, we need to be ready for whatever comes. So let’s allow the Lord to prepare us. Christ will help us.“ O Lord, you search me and you know me, you know my resting and my rising, you discern my purpose from afar.” (Ps. 139:1-3) With Christ, all will be well. We have nothing to fear.
