“Keep Your Eyes On The Lord”

I’m writing this BLOG on inauguration day. I have to say that I’m a bit “down” as I ponder what’s coming in the next years…. especially in the area of “right to life”, religious freedom, and support for basic moral law… there’s more, but those are my top concerns.

In light of all this, I did see a helpful article from the Family Policy Alliance (Jan. 20, 2021) that listed three resolutions as we go into this new moment. They listed the following:

  1. I am resolved to be hopeful—not because of who sits in the White House, but because of Who sits on the throne of Heaven. All governing authorities on Earth are subject to our God as the governing Authority. If I place my hope in any political leader of any party, I will always be disappointed. If I place my hope in Christ alone, I will never be disappointed. What’s more, His light usually shines brightest in the darkest places.
  2. I am resolved to be faithful — rendering unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God all that belongs to him.
  3. I am resolved to be prayerful. God’s Word commands us to pray for those who have governing authority over us. So today, I will pray for President Biden and his incoming administration—for God’s wisdom for them, for their salvation, and for their families. I will pray God would work in and through them for His purposes and His glory. (ref. 1Tim. 2:1-2 “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way.”)

So, here we are. I don’t have the right to be “bummed out” when things don’t seem to be working out the way I think they should. The answer to all the problems in the world is to turn to Christ; our nation needs to turn back to God. “We are all sinners who have fallen far short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23) Our Church needs renewed holiness…we need saints. My role is not to wring my hands and complain, my role is to pray and do my duty. And in the end, the Lord will have the final word …. Christ will ultimately reign.

A dear friend once said, as he was living his last days on this earth…. “Smile & Love”.   So, let the world see how these Christians love one another. And “let all proclaim to the glory of God the Father, that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Phil. 2:11) ….

……  and all will be well with my soul.
