Did Michelangelo Have A “To-Do List” ???

I’m a big “To-Do List” person. Almost everyday I refresh my “To-Do” list …. adding new items, crossing off completed items. Now, I don’t always do everything that’s on my list; to be honest, some things get bounced down the road to another day, another week, another month….okay, even another lifetime.

Michelangelo Painting The Sistine Chapel Ceiling

My mother knew me pretty well. Some days she would find me in my room making out a new to-do list. I’d announce, ”I’m getting organized…making out a new to-do list…..yes, study organic chemistry for 2 hours, Bio for 1 hour, work on that term paper for 2 hours …”. I could see she was impressed….I could hear her thinking to herself, ”My son, the genius…oh he’s going to make something of himself, what determination, what drive…”. Unfortunately, needing a short break, I would sneak in to watch a few minutes of the “3 Stooges” and she would catch me…. rolling her eyes and murmuring to herself, “perhaps not a genius”.

Okay, where was I? Oh yes, I’m a “To-Do List” person. Once an item makes the list as something I believe I should do, it finds space in my brain and it can weigh me down. Until it’s accomplished, I can even experience being behind the 8 Ball. When I accomplish an item from my list, I feel relieved and refreshed. I SCRATCH it off the list, I feel like Tarzan, bellowing “AHHH-EAHHHHH-AHHHHHH-EAAAAHHHHHAAA.” I’m ready for anything. The bigger the accomplishment, the louder the bellow.

You may be wondering where this work of art is headed….certainly you may detect brilliance, yet a certain mystification. You may note a blend of Shakespeare, Hemingway, Tokien dwelling in the margins. I understand, I really do. In fact, I’m thinking it may be time to  “pull back the curtain” on the development of these masterpieces…. let you in on how the BLOGS come to life. I sometimes experience the delicate balance between frustration and elation, the agony and the ecstasy …even similar to what Michelangelo experienced as he painted the Elizabeth skyline on the ceiling of the Newark train station.  Well, this particular BLOG has been a work-in-process for a couple of weeks. It just hasn’t seemed worthy to hit the press. Yet today, I thought I should either bring it to the light of day or delete it and send it into the netherworld.

Well as you can see, this BLOG is  seeing the light of day. So, let’s round third and bring this baby home. Dave, is there a point to this BLOG? Yes there is!

The point of this BLOG is that we need to use whatever can help us do what the Lord has put on our plate to do. Doing the will of God is the bottom line for each of us. If a “To-Do” list helps you in doing God’s will, then use that tool. If something else helps you, use that. Certainly daily prayer is essential. Yet sometimes little mechanical tools can help us also.

Holy Spirit help us to find the tools that work for us, that help us  hear and obey the will of God. If we do that all will be well with our soul. As for me, I am finally scratching this BLOG off my to-do list……”Adios To-Do List BLOG”….  and that is very good news.

  1. Brilliant, Dad. Or easy to identify with! Both!

  2. When I take my prayer time first, I know I’m in God’s will. I’m trusting the rest of the day is God’s will✝️
